I cannot imagine why helping your wife (as a described well-seasoned kiteboarder) would not be allowed. You were not instructing for hire, and were not (I assume) taking in any kind of revenue from the instruction. This is getting to sound more ridiculous all the time.

Well at least they made everything safer for the public. Wouldn't want the likes of you showing her how not to hurt herself/other. A few mistakes builds character. Think of all the lessons she would have missed if she did everything right the first time.....you were holding her back, and getting in the way.
