I know I'm still a hydrofoil noobie, but this damn thing has made me even more suckered into kiting and bit me in the behind like a mother, can't get enough of it. Now, my wife is thinking, "why did I get him this thing for his birthday present?"
I'm still extra cautious and find it to have a tough time balancing the LF RocketFish setup when I raise the board off the water, but getting there. At least am able to go upwind and downwind on command even though I am still forcing the board on the water. I was even able to ride last Sunday when it was going 35 mph gusts from Grand Avenue almost all the way to the aircraft carrier.
Now the question is, with this upwind ability, assuming all safety precautions have been addressed, can someone on a hydrofoil safely ride offshore conditions without getting into too much trouble?
Riding Offshore winds with Hydrofoil possible?

possible ? yes
safe ? no
but you probably knew that.
if its shallow, its all good
if you cant touch, & theres a mechanical problem
you may be forced to ditch the kite
spose you could swim in with the board, or ride the swell in
ala kia lenny,ha !

Also wind quality / consistency coming off-shore is usually pretty stop & go because of all the terrain inspired eddies - let alone the freddies

Well, you can do offshore with anything really as long as you have enough power to ride upwind (I have ridden side offshore and full offshore with tt and surfboard in the past). Problem with offshore is when something goes wrong, broken line, wind dies, etc.... Then it goes worst really quick...
