The spot I'm considering is not anywhere near the NE ramp.
It's actually on the west side of TI adjacent to a grassy area suitable for launch - which I've used a couple of times.
The wind blows pretty much NW on that side of the island (side onshore).

Having said that, I acknowledge the concerns and the valued points brought up by the responders. I will look into this closely before taking any action.
