Your idea is a much simpler build with the inserts.
Since you have been using your board and have success with the foil placement, I will position the mast in the same general location compared to yours.
My slight advantage is I can move the mast forward or backwards once I get it up and running.
I won't be able to work on the board until the second week of August, work is keeping me from having fun...

Dude you should have gone to MacBeath Hardwood in Berkeley. They have good thin marine grade plywood and will sell you 1/4 sheets. Or I could have sold you my leftover 1/4 sheet from my foil build :P
