I used to drive to the berkley marina everyday after work, it was after a few lost hours of work and no wind days that made me get the subscription. It is nice knowing if it is worth leaving work or not. Now there are other places to get wind readings for free but they usually dont have the few places you want to know about.

For me its definitely worth it. Driving to a spot with no wind is a real waste of time.
ikitesurf combined with this http://511.org/ is the life line of the addict.

nothing beats realtime pics. Can you imagine what the kiting world would be like if we had that at wadell and alameda and et cetera, et cetera, et cetera? (I like Yul Brynner in the King and I). I don't begrudge the paging services their membership fees, but a little community spirit goes a looong way towards saving lots of people money, time, and hassle.
huge thanks to jack, ken, EFI, and all that helped and continue to facilitate webcams at 3rd. It is by far my favorite location, and I am sure the site has something to do with its popularity.
good one on the 511.org, too. Check out highway 92 (my fight) at rush hours and on weekends. SNAFU until the tunnel is done.
