No North Beach isn't like that at all. It's too steep. No flatness between the waves. Maybe more so at low tide. Google Earth the place and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Tried North Beach again today. Good wind, but just too onshre, nasty high tide shore break, deadly looking rips, and crazy chop between the waves, and macking waves on the outside. Not much fun.
How's Dillion? Remember doing some crabbing there as a kid off a pier. I was looking on Google Earth. Does that backside make a slick? Would it have been good today on the NW clearing wind???? Or tomorrows? Is that in Marin or Sonoma? My paroll stipulates that I can't leave Marin Co. :P
BTW, Limantour doesn't work on these NW clearing winds.

Limantour is blocked by Pt. Reyes, I guess.
Dillon works great on NW, at least the times I've been there. It's a big, sandy beach for launching and the break is pretty far out, so there's plenty of flat water on the inside and room to get going.
The break goes all the way from the beach across the mouth of Tomales, although it gets a little nutty in the middle (waves breaking both directions). The wind is side-onshore.
The break seemed to be from South to North. Someone who kites more in surf than I do could probably say more about the quality of the waves.
Dillon is at the north end of Tomales bay, directly west of Petaluma. I think it's in Marin, but if it's not, it's not very far over the border. I'm hoping to kite there tomorrow afternoon if the wind doesn't shift to offshore by then. Maybe I'll see you there.
Charlie?

paul all i know is the north coast does make O.B... look like a kids park
and some of the olD DOgZ windsurfed out that way in off shore norteasters,
tuba and Dillon ...
i have heard,.....
i have not played, out there in the north coast beach cliffs
with rips and currents that can pull you way out to sea.
pt rayes is not a place for charlie to play.
now i have windsurfed all over hog island from the grassy noll..
the wind there is very gusty and builds as you head west..
that is one place id rig small like 4.0 and smaller in the spring.
it might be 22 at the grassy noll and 35 at the other side of the bay(west side)
ETHANol
my hat is off, to you sir. to play out at pt reyes.

I kited Dillon today, just me and a guy named Chris on a Peter Lynn kite.
Nothing you couldn't handle, Charlie, except maybe the cold at sunset. The waves weren't even that big, head high or so.
I saw a big, big fish jump a wave, but it wasn't Whitey.
