Yeah, good point. If you're under 25, a rental car may cost you.

Another option, is you might be able to find someone at the University who can let you "rent" their car for the summer. This was pretty common when I went to school.

Or, make REALLY good friends with the few kiters who live in Davis. Bring them beer, pay their gas money, and you'll probably get a good number of rides to kite spots, especially if you're flexible on time.

And consider that beyond kiting, the SF Bay Area has so much to offer and so much to do and the only way you can experience it all is with a car.

Unfortunately, we don't have the transportation infrastructure with the same kind of coverage and access as Europe. I know, a bummer. Your timing to be visiting here is great, so make your stay one to remember!

ben,

You might want to broaden your search to include windsurfers in Davis. There are a number of them who go to Sherman regularly, and some of them don't even hate kiters (yet). You can try to find someone on the iwindsurf forum - www.iwindsurf.com.

bon chance!

Craigslist

Hello,

Try craigslist. I just did a search and found saw a few cars for $500.

Those are just a few of the cars I searched on CL for 500 and those were just posted today. Who really cares how they look, just as long as it gets you from point a to b and that they run for 3 months. You would be amazed how many people just want to get rid of their cars. Might be even worth trying a posting saying that you want a free car. If your really want to get around easy and economically motorcycles are cheap and its possible to strap your gear onto the bike.

Good Luck

thanks, I'll be at the auction next wednesday !!!

concerning all these bargain cars priced at 500 $, I'm pretty reluctant.... I would be pretty pissed off if I had to spend 1000 $ to fix it just 10 miles after I bought it....
