Hi Matt,
I heard that August there is pretty insane. Beach restrictions and too many kiters. I am thinking to be there in August but I don't want to get stuck on the beach either. Any recommendation? Are there other less crowded spots?

Many thanks Jacopo

Hello Goobe,

I will be passing 1 month in Tarifa from mid-June to mid-July. I am from Canada but I am currently enjoying the bay area kiting since I am in San Jose for 3 weeks. I do have some questions for u about Tarifa, it would be pretty helpful if u can help me!

I heard that there are 2 predominante winds; el levante y el poniente. Apparently troughout summer el poniente is mostly blowing and it is a very strong wind. I have a 10m & a 14m. I am trying to travel light so I wouder of I should bring the 14m with me? Also I am guessing the water temp is high enough so no full wetsuit is needed?

The last thing is that I started to look for rental appartmenets on the web but it looks pretty booked sp convenient & affordable places seem hard to find. How easy it is to find affordable lodging?

Anyway sorry for all these questions but this info would truely help me...

Thanks
Max

i am paying for internet by the minute, so i will be brief

i haven¥t been building any boards because there is a total lack of raw materials here. not to mention the fact that the last board i built is totally bad ass and (i hope) indestructable.

regarding tarifa, it is not insane yet, but suposedly in august it gets pretty rediculous. the poniente is a calm and reliable wind out of the west. the levante is a scary wind out of the east. the other day, my employer and i went out, and we were the only ones on the beach. we were both using 7m kites in about 40 knots of wind. the water was white.

i ripped a huge hole in my wetsuit and just about killed myself. and i am a kite instructor........

i will write more when i get a chance. peace.

You will be confined to about 1km of beach which is plenty if you stay outside. Close to shore gets super busy with beginners and people showing off but you definitely won't be stuck on the beach if you go there. Also, if you're friendly and clever you can get yourself in where the schools have their designated area and all you have to do is watch out for a few students (by far the best option).
