A cool thing about SOL is you can pick your flavor depending on usage... like water specfic or high altitude applications. They are the only brand supposenly using pharmacuticle grade sunblock instead of commercial. All I know is that SOL works!!! :)

Yoda,

So do you buy online or locally? Where?

I've used Beyond Coastal, it's good. Delta Windsurf has it on their counter. Banana Boat and Coppertone are also good with no stinging. Those are all 30spf. I recall reading a while back, maybe in Consumer Reports or something that anything beyond 30spf is not effective beyond 30spf based on their testing, so it's possible that 50spf won't do you much more good than 30spf.

The ONLY sunscreen that really works

Post by GracieMarie » Tue Jun 05, 2007 8:05 pm

Hey There,
Let me just save you a ton of time, money, and skin cancer and hook you right up to da kine: ColorScience: Sunforgettable.

I used to use Shiesedo, but no more. This stuff is like nothing I've ever used anywhere; it does not come off, it is guaranteed for 80 minutes of hard core water time; it's hella easy to apply. SPF 30, totally sufficient for kiters in equatorial climates, the absolute very best. You remove it with disposable, pre-moistened make-up remover pads that you can get at any drugstore or Costco.

Use the Sunforgettable retractable brush; it's a tube of whiteish powder that dispenses through a brush that you dry coat your face/neck with....I'm a total believer.

You can buy all that tubular/lotion junk and it's meaningless unless it's easy to apply/remove and stays on w/out running into your eyes. It is worth every penny. I got mine from Dr. Kim in Pleasant Hill, a MD who also sells skincare stuff.

Good luck. You'll never use another sunscreen again once you try this stuff. GM

I wonder how many guys would use Sheisedo though, isn't that for the ladies? Reminds me of the cosmetics counter at Macy's where they have all those female doctors (labcoats?) working there...

You mean "Shiseido", right?

I use Kanebo ALLIE (SPF 50), which came with a free flower flipflops that I wear. But for sure Neutrogena one was so bad...

But I get dark anyway...

Unfortunately it's hard to find. :(

I got my last batch from The Backcountry up in Truckee, but it was the one for altitude, not water. They may carry the water though. I have seen some shops in Santa Cruz with the water specific version.

Check Lombardi's and simular independent outdoor sports shops and also quality surf shops. Good luck. :)

Hey BigO,
If it's good enough for Kelly Slater and Jack Johnson, it's good enough for me....I learned about that gunk(Shiesiedo, or however you spell it) from my Hawaiian friends....one DOES sport that oh-so-hot geisha look, but the stuff works. Sunforgettable is even better----I brush some on you when I get back from Mexico! Face only! :>
