Evan and "crew"

probably should give Gary at Helm a call BEFORE you head out to 3rd for any demo....if you don't, you might not like the outcome (650-344-2711).

I think it's okay to poach when it's your bro on the wave and your both supposed to be in the money shot.

And regarding contacting Helm, is there something I don't know? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the last time I rode 3rd it appeared to be public access. We're not out to cause any problems, just to ride.....

It's purely a respect thing. Theres no law saying you cant. I agree it is a bit frusterating when you are technically just inflating a few of your own kites and letting people borrow them. But if you have ever seen boardsports during a demo that is not their brand or not generating moeny for them.....watch out! This is why you dont see SS demoing on the beach in front of the shack or North eager to come demo new kites here at Alameda. It's all F'ing politics and it sucks. Its no different than how surfers get so territorial over "their" wave. People get killed over this kind of stuff.

The best way to stay peaceful and get the name out there is to either find a way to carry the brand locally where you are demoing or let people borrow kites independently for the day so no one ever knows. Get some unbiased reviews on here, lets hear it. Maybe it's time to give one of the underdogs a chance. Hell, when one of our more well known local riders was flying for Windwing,RRD and Best, he was always boasting about how the underdog was the right thing to support. One valuable thing I have learned is that no amount of money saved is worth having to deal with politics, feel overly loyal to someone and certainly not worth feeling you have to misrepresent a product to your friends when you know it's not the right thing for them.

I'm curious as to what happen if Gary from Helm say's no, does that mean only cabrinha and slingshot which the store carries have exclusivity @ 3rd?

If the store is worried that they might lose sales, then maybe they should carry more brands. I really like to hear it directly from the folks at Helm on this matter.

Is this a JOKE?
What does Helm have to do with 3rd ave?
Does Ocean Beach belong to Wise now? I just dont get it. And dont get me started on how stupid the Alameda rules are.
I really like Helm and its the first place I go to get anything I need, Actually bought a couple kites from them over the years and stoked to buy it there.
Helm, please clear this up for us.

Well, to this point we haven't heard from Helm so I am not sure this is even an issue for them.... I can say though that I have done demos in three countries and never come across something like this before.

1) Again, I am running on the assumption that 3rd is a public venue.

2) If this is not the case, I don't see why we would be under any obligation to contact Helm. It should be noted that Helm has had the opportunity to carry our kites for years and has chosen not to.

3) I don't surf in California because of the BS that comes along with it. Is this what we want kiting to become?

4) If I did demos so that no one knows about them I would not be very good at my job.....:)

5) If the other brands are concerned that they are going to lose market share over this, this is not the way to protect it. If you've got a great product put it in the hands of the locals and then let them make their own choice. I'd be happy if the " others " want to show up and set up beside us.

6) Beach politics? :vom:

I'll stick to having fun instead. For those of you that want to try our stuff and ride with us, I look forward to seeing you.

Well then we should make this a mini- kite expo or a demo day to start the kite season off. Dave, Steve, bring your kites then we'll have 4 brands to go head to head, bruce? F-one that makes 5. Naish, North?

If someone brings some propane I'll bring a bunch of dogs and burgers!!!!
