zh4k, I forgot about John's services at kitethebay.com--he's been teaching and kiting for years--definitely a good option. If you can find someone(s) to do the trip with it gets more affordable.

For knowing what winds work your best bet is to sign up with ikitesurf.com just before your trip and read the daily briefing. I think the first one or two weeks is free. Also, if you think you'll be close to getting screwed on airline weight charges just strip your LF proof and ship it--you can't damage those boards with anything less than a sawzall.*

And like others said, hanging at crissy's a pretty good scene. Do it as a part of a day trip to the city if you're into touristy stuff ("Welcome to SF. Here's your tshirt, give us all your money, now go home.")

* United might find a way

Thanks again guys. I def. plan on hitting up 3rd and sherman with my 8 and 10. I also sold my Proof board and am just going to buy another one to have shipped out that won't be such a beginner board.

Thanks for all the extremely useful info and I'm sure to have a killer time because of it.

Good winds to all

You got great advice already.....

realize, the bay to kiting is like Salt Lake City for skiing/snowboarding: one of the best places on earth, with MANY options. @ all locations, cold beers after the sesh are much appreciated by the natives.

Have fun, Z

Hey all, my visit was killer and I had a blast my whole time to California. I posted an update as to what I did in the off-topic forum. Thanks all for your help, it was very helpful.

I posted in the off-topic forum because now that I saw California I want to work there for the summer, but I need some help to find a summer opportunity and didn't want to clutter up this forum. So if you can help check out the off-topic section.

Thanks,

Zac
