Here is another way to donate to the cause. I have set up a package of 1) 8 X 10 print & 1) Coffee mug (with your beautiful mug on the mug) for the price of only $30.00. All the proceeds from this package (about half) I will donate to Luz fund. All the water sport's racing ,Kite boarding ,Windsurfing gallery's are open for the package through the end of the month. So all you Sherman people if you want to donate & get a little something back here is a way.

I donated via PayPal; thanks for setting up the fund and I hope Luz has a full recovery with little-to-no facial scarring.

Re: Doing the right thing for a little girl hurt by a kiter
I went to Yvonne's kickboxing class Wednesday night to say hello to Miguel, and met Luz and her father and brother were there also. Luz is a sweet little girl, a little shy about attention from strangers, and very nice. Her injury looks like it is healing well, and thank goodness they were able to get good help with the stitching. I think she was going to get her stitches out yesterday, I don't have an update on that.
Luz's father Jose had the emergency room bill with him, that's $1700, before the bill for the plastic surgeon doing the stitching. They were very relieved to hear there is real commitment to help them with this bill, they do not have insurance or money saved for this, and are at least a bit shocked that it is so much money.
Currently we have raised $712, so far 20 people have donated, the last person on Wednesday (a big one, thanks!!).
We've got work to do to cover this, I will keep the topic updated as we know more about the surgeon's bill and tally the donations. We need to make sure this family is taken care of. They aren't asking for it, we want them not to need to.

Re: Doing the right thing for a little girl hurt by a kiter
Another idea floated is a swap meet where either all or some percentage of the price of the items sold go to Luz's fund (i.e., you sell a used kite for $500 and $50 or $100 goes to Luz's fund). I'm sure everybody has some usable gear that they just want to get rid of and they can donate some or all the proceeds. Possibly all three can be combined for an end-of-season fundraising event (BBQ/Raffle/Swap Meet)? Just to get a better sense of interest, would anybody be interested in a swap meet fundraiser either as a buyer or a seller? Anyone have used kite gear they would be willing to sell as part of this fundraiser?
Also, does anybody regularly post on ikitesurf/iwindsurf? The incident with Luz seems to have made it's way over to their forums and has gotten pretty heated. Can anyone who posts there regularly (i.e., is known on their boards) start a thread encouraging them to contribute to the Fund that David has set up? Thanks.

Re: Doing the right thing for a little girl hurt by a kiter
Please leave ikitesurf and iwindsurf alone on this topic. It never should have been mentioned there--just let it age off and do not feed the fires. Both the ikite/iwindsurf forums are classic cases of how not to run an online community and have been taken over by, shall we say, dysfunctional personality types.
Greg already responded on ikitesurf--props to him. Now let it die. Nothing good comes from posting on ikitesurf, and the windsurfers are predictably having a hate-fest.

Stone,
Never really been on either of those forums before, but if you say it's a dead-end, I won't post anything there.

Re: Doing the right thing for a little girl hurt by a kiter
Does anyone know a patient advocate that would be willing to take this on pro bono, in exchange for introducing themself to a bunch of kiters that have a habit of needing ER services? The medical industry has a reputation for really sticking it to the uninsured who don't have a negotiating agency working on their behalf, so it wouldn't surprise me if a knowledgable person could knock this bill down a bit. (I have memories of a hospital trying to charge my girlfriend $100 for the box of kleenex in her room)davidllyon wrote:Luz's father Jose had the emergency room bill with him, that's $1700, before the bill for the plastic surgeon doing the stitching.
