Best kite size for Waddell?

Air on the coast is colder and more dense that the air in the Bay and Delta. 20mph at 3rd and I'm riding a 10M or 12M. 20mph on the coast I'm riding a 6

I have wondered about the same thing. But I doubt temp is the difference: I ran the numbers (70 deg vs 50 deg) and only come up with a 4% difference. And some of that is negated with the increased humidity at the coast (higher humidity, lower density).

My guess is geography - there is more wind higher up because of the cliffs. The windsurfers are usually riding about the same size sail as they would at 3rd.

Just to stay on track, at ~200lb I mostly ride the 8m at Waddell although I often need my 11m at HMB and Gazos.

I find that totally different than my experience. I have a 6m I've only used a hand full of times at Waddell over the last several years and almost exclusively on my 9m. I use both a 135 TT and 6'5" surfboard. I hit Waddell/Scotts about 25 times per year. Then again, I hit the later afternoon time during the week after work.

RP Skater: Your 9 is really a 7. There are guys on this forum who weigh 220 who ride their 7s more than their 9s at Waddell. No offense intended, but your are in the minority if you ride your 9 more than your 7 there.

As MWP said, most wave riders prefer to ride the smallest possible kite in the waves, not the biggest they can hold down.
