ramsey is right on this. the key to sent jumps is in your board control, not really your kite.

learning to do a proper popped backroll will help a ton in your sent jumps, it teaches you load and pop technique.

learn to get 5 feet of air without sending the kite, and i guarantee you'll be able to get 20 when you send it.

as for redirect timing? that just takes practice...learning how to downloop the kite on landing will help if you find the kite is too far behind you...

I gotta admit I haven't tried a loop while fully boosted, and on real out of control ones I sometimes teabag. Adam - when do you loop it, when you hit the apex, or on the way down? Meaning, is it too late to loop once I realize I am swinging beneath it? Its the kind of thing I'd rather not experiment TOO much with sans asking :)

do you ever get the feeling "oh crap, i didn't bring the kite forward enough, i'm gonna fall?" at that point, you pull HARD on your front hand. the kite will do a little downloop and you'll often come out of the jump going the other way. voila! jump transition!

so, to answer your question, i do it on the way down...it's pretty much never too late to loop it, but possibly too early.

it's sortof natural. you didn't pull hard enough on your front hand so you're gonna crash, so to make up for it, pull really hard on your front hand to loop the kite.

to be clear, i'm NOT talking about a kiteloop. i'm talking about a downloop. that's a pretty crucial distinction.

A few added cents:

Speed is a big key. As soon as you leave the water you start slowing down and going downwind. If you are ever OP'd, jumping is a great way to slow down.

The more speed you start with the more forward momentum you have in the air to slow your decent and increase hangtime. This is assuming you donw overfly the kite behind you so much that you just stall.

What I see most beginners do when they jump is not load up enough and fly the kite too far back and not fast enough in front of you.

Kites pull more under load. So the faster you can go, the more you can edge and the quickest you can get the kite from low to high, the higher and further you will go.

The quicker you throw the kite up and back, the more of that yank will be used efficiently to lift you. The slower you bring the kite up the more you will do those long low altitude hovers. The timing of snapping your kite up to the right spot and knowing when to yank back is key as well. Start small though. No point in taking off without knowing how to land.

then I close my eyes.. And push that way
pull this way hope like hell I dont land sideways

But ya ramsy is one of the biggest guys
who jumps the biggest... On the smallest kite
all the time
yuri too can boost to the moon

@ramsey thanks for posting this, I've been working on my load + pop and have watched many instructional vids but this is the first one I've seen to point out the body angle going forward parallel to the kite lines once you pop. Makes tons of sense, can't wait to try it.
