I think Dillon is a private beach, actually. It's 5 bucks to park, but there was noone there yesterday to take my money...

I have to agree with Charlie about the photoshopping of that picture.

The straight onshore wind, rips, and pounding surf just didn't look so fun at North Beach so I hiked into Abbott's and got a nice flat water sesh. A little gusty but not enough to stop me from doing my routine. Anybody ever kite in there? I'm starting to wonder about the water quality. The water tastes like a giant pile of cow sh1t. Epic spot for people learning.

Would have liked to TD at Dillion with you guys. It's just a little further for me. Next time. For now it looks like good ol' surfing is the call.

Agree, it was colder then hell at sunset. Ah, WTF am I talking about. I spent 5 years kitesurfing the frigid winters of New England.

still need to figure out how to launch at palomarin.....Used to own that place in the 90's...great wave, great wind.....almost makes me want to go back and windsurf it again....However, figuring out the launch on a kite has me puzzled.

I know Ray has hit it...Taylor as well

Flat water kiting in Marin? That's cool. Looks like with a bit of exploring the overcrowding issue will be almost non-existant.

ethanol, each time you kite a new place for you in west marin, it's been done before.

whitecap, 1998 I think, 2 line kites, I was trying to figure out how not to kill myself at Crissy learning kiting from a bad video, went to Palo, aka The Rock, thinking it would be awesome to kite there but knew not with my skills then, looked down the cliff and Chip was ripping an awesome swell day. I could only dream.

So what was the hike time to get into the lagoon.

I checked it out on Google Earth, and it looks like it would take a full day to get in and out of there and back home...

With all the grazing on Pt. Reyes, I wouldn't kite that spot for a few days after a good rainstorm. Manure flows downhill just like anything else.

Bulldog, it's an easy 12 minute flat walk to the lagoon.
Do not, I repeat, do not go in the lagoon, until a major winter storm comes in and flushes the lagoon. The water sits there all summer and festers with plant and animal material. Just walk a bit further to ocean for some good NW swell, or head up to Kehoe or McClure's beach.

moblvet, I'm sure all these spots have been kited a zillion times by now. The thing is, just no one is out kiting them now. It makes me think there must be better spots. If you're not into these spots being posted that's cool. I didn't think it mattered as I have seen a single kiter since I've been here. I don't think crowding will ever be an issue out this way as it's foggy and miserable in the summer. People give it up in the winter. And most of all, it's just too damn far from the bay area population centers.

The lagoon is nasty. How nasty, I'd like to find out. Could it be worse then the inner Boston Harbor or Winthrop (next to Boston's sewage plant) where I learned how to kitesurf. If it's in that relm, sounds like a go to me. I kited a pretty nasty lagoon in Brazil for a week surrounded by livestock in September. The bottom was the mukiest nastiest thing imaginable. I'm just not one to believe in the unsubstantiated fear, like sharks. I think summer would be better as the rain doesn't wash in piles of cow sh1t. Probably the first rains of fall are the worst, and I haven't gotten sick, but that doesn't mean it's safe.
