Hey Guys,
Thanks a ton for the detailed advice. I'm driving to San Fran on the 27th from NYC.
I'm definitely not an expert kiter. So I think I Chrissy is out except for maybe with boat support - just to experience it.
So it looks like SoMa wins? Castro/Misson second? Marina a close third? Have to research these hoods.
I think I'm gonna do an apartment share for a little bit till I can figure out my routine. But it does look like 3rd ave as much as possible and then hit Wadell Creek and the ocean once in a while. I cant wait. Wind in the summer in NYC usually sucks.
Again I really appreciate this and wouldnt mind buying you guys a beer when I'm there.

Sunset District in SF for sure. Get a place down by the Great Highway and you can walk to Ocean Beach, but you need to be savoy in the waves. From there you can go North to Crissy, Stinson, or Dillon. Or South to Third, Santa Cruz, or Central Coast. Even East 1.5hrs for Sherman. It puts you in the middle of the 6 best spots in the Bay Area. Only problem is the weather kind of sucks around there in mid summer, cold damp and foggy. Marin is a good option too. If you like flat water get an RV and move to Sherman for the summer, otherwise stick to the coast.

Do you have to be in San Francisco or are nearby cities an option too? If you dont have to be in the city, then there are many more options, probably the best around san mateo/foster city or in the east bay. You will get less rent and closer beaches.Vivek wrote:Hey Guys,

If you must be in the city, then it depends on the style of kiting you will do. If you are more on the beginner side, then you need to be close to the highways, since the kiting spots in the city itself are not for beginners.
Near the highways means the south east side of the city, including many neighborhoods like Noe Valley, Mission, Castro, Glen Park, SOMA, Bernal, Dogpatch, Potrero, Hunters Point to name a few. Generally the souther you go the cheaper it is.
Like others said its key to also have a short commute to work if you want to kite a lot.

Elli,
I'm going to be working from home or a coworking space to start with.
From all of your advice SOMA, Mission looks like where I'm gonna live for 3-6 months while I try to figure out the rest of the city.
I hate living in the burbs - I did that in Long Island and absolutely hated it. So much so that its a balck hole in my memory :) ...
