The Zero electric dirtbike is cool and on a recent shootout against a 2-stroke in cross-country, jumping and hill climb, the Zero trounced the 2-stroke on a distance cross-country run, but lost in the hillclimb and jumping, which isn't surprising. After all, gas-powered bikes have been around for many, many years and they're powerful and have a great power-to-weight ratio, but for such a new tech bike, it was cool to see it win in at least one out of three tests. The torque and longevity on the electric was impressive though. Very weird to only hear the chain, suspension and bouncing noises from the bike with no engine noise!

With that said, it's still a dirt bike, not a mountain bike or bicycle. Testing the rules on the basis of technicalities would wreck it for the mountain bikers and would be a huge kook move for sure. You certainly wouldn't make any friends on the trails!

My neighbor (the one riding it) built this electric tractor/ATV for me out of spare parts and stuff we got on Craigslist for free. I sent him the photos of the Electric dirtbike on Monday and turns out he was already building one out of stuff he has sitting around. With anything electric, the batteries are the biggest expense, especially if they're lithium ion. If anyone comes across a pile of free LI batteries, let me know. :roll:
