Just like Craigslist has put every home/apartment selling business out on the street, the bow kites are going to make it extremely difficult for manufacturers to stay in business if they don't keep up with the Jones'. Regardless of some inherent stability on c kites and the potential to de-power nearly as much, the truth is that the majority of people will buy the latest greatest thing no matter what.

Since this discussion is turning into a "Bow vs. C" discussion, I'd like to get everyone's feed back on the two with regards to beginners.
I'm just getting into the sport, and have been flying a trainer kite now for a while. I'm committed to lessons as soon as they start up.
From talking to several people it seems that a 12m bow kite is the way to go. I've been looking at the Cabrinha Switchblade and Crossbow. The depower and relaunch abilities of these kites *seem* to be ideal for a newbie like myself. That being said, I could go out a purchase a C kite for less than half the cost of the switchblade or crossbow. I'm not necessarily concerned with the $$$, I just want a setup that allows me to start having as much fun as possible with room to grow.
So, If you were starting out what would you do? C, crossbow, switchblade?
Thank you!

Funny isn't it? I change my mind more than a girl. I ended up getting a 3 kite quiver of RRD type hir. I was starting to feel uneasy about the Rap2's. I don't think that they are bad kites, but I don't think that they had what I was looking for. I am very happy with what I got. Finally DONE!!!jjm wrote:So you didn't end up getting the rap2s? What are you thinking now?

If your thinking bow then look for a place that has many different types. There are so many bows out now, you shouldn't limit yourself to just looking at a couple. I would look at a lower aspect bow, without the 2:1 bar. If your just learning you'll be sheeting in and out a lot. The 2:1 bar will exaggerate this, causing inversions. Ask around from as many people as you can find. I think that the GK Sonic is a good choice for a bow. It's not as flat, easy relaunch, total depower, and so far I haven't heard of one inverting.
Good Luck & make sure you get good lessons.

Dew,
You are an astute consumer and destined for greatness. Large men ride powerful kites. De-power is for the rest! I applaude =D> your choice and am eager to see you BOOST! (Besides, anyone who has any time on the RRD kites know how "rangey" they really are! But then again, I am a religious man with a strong belief system.)
Another convert, taking over the world one kiter at a time. What sizes Kimosabe?
