Re: On the Rocks at Hs. Lordships
He climbed the tree with army boots and a few ropes, made it up to the crown, trimmed a couple branches, got all scratched up and tossed the kite out after bunching it up...
Good job!
Good job!

Re: On the Rocks at Hs. Lordships
I was thinking of stuffing a 30' ladder up there and pushing it off with an extention pole...
I'm actually surprized he made it to the crown... must have gotten pretty "thin" up there!

It's what has to be done!
There’s no way that thing was coming down and we had to get that kite out of the tree sooner than later, otherwise we get a bunch shit for it. It took me about and hour and a half to get that thing down. My arms look like I got into fight with a cactus and almost fell once, but it's done.
Consider this if; you come to Berkeley and you can’t self launch or land without extreme confidence, don’t come here. What are you going to do if no one’s there? What’s going to happen when everyone leaves? I had a guy yesterday ask me to launch him as I’m getting into the car to leave and I said, cant you self launch? His reply was yeah, but I don’t feel comfortable doing it. Who goes to a place that has no room for error and says something stupid like that. I won’t put up with it anymore.
I didn’t launch him by the way!

Re: On the Rocks at Hs. Lordships
But couldn't you argue that it is still safer launch with a partner? I agree that you should be comfortable self launching, but it still poses a greater risk than having a helping hand. And do we really want to be responsible for having people who are not comfortable self launching messing around with the procedure at Berkeley simply because we refused to launch them?
What do you think he did after you left?
nice work with the kite, BTW, it looked like a project. I'm glad you were able to take care of that temporary monument to our errors.

Hmm, ok, that's kinda homeless of you. I've been kiting at Pt Emery since 04 and if there is any chance of getting a launch or a land, I am taking it. You're not doing anyone any favors by taking the risks associated with self-anything and the only good thing about it is that you feel good about yourself.jayfly wrote:

Good job on taking the kite down by the way.

Re: On the Rocks at Hs. Lordships
I agree with you but the point is one should at least know how to be self-sufficient. but yes, there is no reason at any spot to self launch if there is assistance. Unless you are at alameda and there are at least 2 families downwind in your flight path. (sarcasm)

Re: On the Rocks at Hs. Lordships
I do get the point and I agree everyone should learn how to do this but that's a bit of a different story. After all these years I never learned to self land so I guess this dude wouldn't launch me and I would be considered stupid for even asking.
It's like asking people to not drive on your section of the freeway if they can't drive a stick.
