Logged 36 miles of downwinders in the past week. All on the 13 and the Stretch 134. Those who know me know what that means (WINDY!) This place has delivered. Back to the Bay tomorrow when some other lucky kiter will take up the journal I hope. The athletics has been so good that I have had to cut down on the drinking. There is plenty of beer left for you guys! Big PROPS to Joe and Angie for a killa' time. Now back to reality, work, chores, rain, shopping (eeek) and waiting for Springtime wind?

Back on US soil and it's windy again from the North. A little like Baja today! Overall a great two weeks of riding. Baja can also be "not so windy" so I really lucked out. Downwinders rule.
I can't wait to live vicariously through Rob and the Smith family and others while you're there. I must say it was getting a bit crowded in LaVentana (especially at the campground) as Christmas approaches. Ask Joe and Angie about AeroMexico-- just assume they won't check before they jibe! Kite-bumpin' kids with no sense of right of way. How do you say "starboard" in Spanish?
Definitely do NOT decide against kiting for lack of wind in town. Up at the Hot Springs I got 16-meter fan-wind on my last day while others struggled at the cove. Mental note to self: it's worth the six-mile windcheck! Besides you need to check the rental car suspension every day. Have fun and Happy Holidays. See you in March. (Ollie, the gnome says "I'm home!")

OK....Finally took the time to head on over to Joes and grab a computer.
Arrived late on Saturday, which was the second of two light wind days....always a good sign. Rigged the 15 early Sunday, since we were jonesing, and went out on a borrowed surfboard....then kiteboard, then the 12. Talked Brian into getting out, even though, at 10, he was pretty worried.....put him out on the 5, and he had a great time. Alex has been doing his thang, and MG stays out all day, just as she does at rio....
Then, we repeat everything for Monday and today....I got some time on the new type 7 9 meter today, and love the kite. We are all digging the wave 2 bar, as you get pretty addicted to the full depower, along with all the juice of a C kite. The 9 loops like the type wave 10....Ollie would dig it fully...
I think it is going to stay windy, as it did not rain much if at all over the summer, which leads to enhanced thermals all winter...The bod is starting to get over being constantly sore, and we are all getting used to the new kites. Alex got some surfing in this morning, and I have to try the break in the morning. Looked pretty nice. No downwinders for us, as we have Scott sitting around at Ventana windsurf, and MG and I take some turns watching him, along with Brian. Not much to say....some of the rio crowd hanging....Nat looks like he is working hard. Good times 8)

Sweet! Sounds like you guys are getting settled in nicely. Since Dave had returned we didn't have anybody down there to make us envious and sorely wishing we were there too. You have come through for us!
I'm still going back and forth and may need to squeeze in a week maybe in January, and Baja is starting to sound like the spot. Going to Costa Rica, South Padre Island or Florida is pretty much a full day traveling, is it any different for Baja? Can any of you guys chime in and suggest the fastest, best and cheapest way to get down there? I know fastest, best and cheapest don't always go together, but tell me how it works and maybe I can swing it. Then I just need to wait for the resident BAK/NSI Golf Bag to return from CR. ;)
Isn't the Type 7 sick? I bet the 9 is radical. For the last year or so, my quiver has been made up of kites that tend to be extremes in one way or another - huge air, upwind power and hangtime or major freestyle and speed but the Type 7 has surprised me as it seems to do a lot of things really well...

The only way to avoid spending a whole day travelling to La Ventana is to fly AeroMexico or whichever the airline is that flies directly to La Paz. I think there's only one flight a day, and it comes in at night, so you can work all day here, fly to La Paz, and be kiting the next day (La Ventana wind works banker's hours, so you don't have to be on the water until 10 or 11.)
The only trick is getting from La Paz to LV -- it's kindof a waste to rent a car, but the taxi ride is pretty steep.

OG: Three hours to Cabo, three hours to LaV. Then you'll have a car and a large selection of flights. LaPaz is quicker but the cab fare is a factor and the flights are limited. Elli is coming by tomorrow to get the gnome directly from me. Can I safely assume I have your blessing to hand it off? He knows he will still owe you beer, of course!

I tried to book Ventana in Feb for a family vacation and couldn't find much to rent and booked Barriles instead. Barriles seems more developed and is easier to get to. The winds seem similar from what I can tell. Looks like people have windsurfed there for a while.
