You wouldn't have to reach behind you.

1) The leash slides freely along the handle pass loop to the side of the harness when under load, where it it super to reach the eject cuff on the leash itself and cut it loose if you need to let the whole works fly.

2) As a last resort you can also pull the release tab on the side of the harness itself, which cuts the handle pass loop loose, also releasing the leash.

And, to top it all off, if you don't need the handle pass set up and would prefer to attach the leash up front, there's a nice clean option for that too.

G-man wrote:This has been a great thread...thanks for all the useful info. On a related note, I have '08 Naish bar (where the leash hooks in above the bar). Can this be (safely) retrofit to hook in below the bar? An '09 bar is $460 (WTF!!)? I'm not spinning anything yet, but I hope to soon.
I stopped by the Naish store in December and they did not have a retrofit kit. I looked at the 08 and 09 bars side by side and it seems it should be pretty easy to adapt the 08 bar. There is a small special pulley you need to get (I bought one and lost it &^E(@()@*#). The front lines have a knot and they sit in pulley so that they can slide towards the bar but not towards the kite - obviously. There is an extra mini line tied to one of the front lines and going through the center hole to the leash. The chicken loop lines also goes through the pulley and back to the sheet-in cleat.

When you eject the chicken loop the whole bar, chicken loop goes up, pushes this pulley together with one of the power lines while the other power line is just pulled through the central hole by your leash + mini line. I looked at the bar for 3 minutes and I am not an expert so very likely my understanding is wrong (standard disclaimer).

From what I see on the pictures of the OR bar the design is simpler and when you let go of the bar it moves up the length of the chicken loop rope and then stops. Maybe that's enough and you do not need the bar to travel all the way to the kite.

The 08 design with the leash going all the way to the pulley is nice because if something goes wrong around the chicken loop, it gets tangled somehow then you bypass all that when you eject. The bad thing about the 08 design is that the leash dangling around on its own will seems to have the potential to create more problems.

when I demoed 08 naish kites I hooked my leash to the end of the trim line just like with the OR bar. Both bars have such long chicken loop lines that it cuts 99% of the power when you blow the safety.

Disclaimer- I don't fly Naish regularly and no beginner should take my advice.
