Re: Crissy to Berkeley Live2kite Downwinder - JUNE 11th
I would be up to trade boards with people during the downwinder to mix it up a little. My surfboard is better in the chop and swell and an easier ride on the legs, but my twintip is funner for big air and the footpads are softer than the deckpad for the feet. I am bringing both but have not decided yet which one to depart with. Conditions might be a factor as well.flyingpaddy wrote:Twin tip or surf board???
I have both, but I'm not very good on the surf board yet. I have only started using it very recently and can't really jib very well.
Someone told me I would be wrecked (tired) using the TT.
Just curious what everyone else is gonna use.
Cheers

I hope it was a good taste for everybody of what the world west of Alcatraz can serve up for wind & swell.. I don't think anybody forgets their first time kiting with the Golden Gate bridge and Alcatraz as the backdrop to the stage.
If you'd like to come back and kite Crissy--please reach out to the Crissy crew and we can help you get dialed... As you can tell it's a beast of it's own..
Glad the downwinder went well and everybody had fun and was safe
Ciaoooo,
-Phil

So... What happened?!
Two years ago, maybe 18 of 130 people that started managed to get to Emeryville without swimming. And lots of folks were stranded out in the Bay for what must have felt like a while, before being picked-up.
The iWindsurf graphs suggest that yesterday might have been awesome. (maybe too awesome!).

Not a muscle on me that doesn't hurt today. I feel lucky that I chose a kite size that allowed me to go all the way, 9m. Learned a lot about picking up boards in high gusts and big swell. Very exciting. The seas near Alcatraz were tough sailing but the views of the city are fantastic.

Thanks to Live2Kite for organizing this great event and to Maui Mike for the amazing barbeque!
Unfortunately, I couldn't participate in the downwinder because my kite was ripped as I was getting ready to launch: a bearded guy flying a black/red Cabrinha kite had a bad launch, got yanked and apparently landed or stepped on my kite, ripping the canopy just behind the leading edge. I remember Evan helping him launch again while someone else held on to his harness.
If you are that guy: I was hoping to meet you at the BBQ, but I don't think you turned up. Shit happens and maybe you didn't even notice that you ripped my kite, but a simple apology would have been nice. Or maybe even some money for kite repair?
I met many great people yesterday, so I can't say this completely ruined my day. But it was obviously very disappointing: I was looking forward to a downwinder under my belt, not a hole in my kite.
