Bar Pressure, I don't got no stinkin Bar Pressure...
Well I went out on my 9m Rebel yesterday for the 3rd. time yesterday in the upper 20's to low 30's for 2.5 hrs and never thought about the pressure once (well maybe once)
I find that when I get the kite in more wind and I am sheeted in about half way the bar pressure in really not bad at all. It's a small price to pay for such a high performance kite. WOW, talk about a little hot rod.. Man this kite is great. In one single day I learned more than on any other group of days together. I was totally jumping, doing downwind transitions and even riding toe side for an extended period of time (like 30 seconds) and I owe most of my success to the kite. It gives me total confidance, never overpowers me, it lets me tell it where I want to go and what I want to do. I can put the kite anywhere I want at any time and WOW does it get there quickly. ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM
I now have nothing but praise for this kite and will surely get another in a 12m for my next kite. I can only feel that with the 9 and 12 that will be all I need to ride from 13 mph to 35 mph
Two thumbs up.... =D>

I have seen how to do this self launching technique but I did not know if it works well with Hybrid / Bow kites with swept back tips.
Here is a link to a video I found on Youtube that looks interesting but not sure it would be the best way to self launch

I'd like to know your opinion of this technique.

Here is another method that looks a little less pacarious and a whole lot simpler.

The last method works fine with the Rebel. That's how I self lauch it. You just need a bit of wind. Pull one of the steering lines and then when it rotates around the wind will catch it. Sheet out with the bar and point it at the kite. A Sherman launch like this (which i did last week because no one was at the beach, everyone was on the water) would mean pulling the black side of the bar. The kite will roll over and be in launch position. Be careful as it does launch a wee bit hot.
I would not recommend self launching a kite for any beginner. You want to have very good kite handling skills to do this technique. When you do practice it for the first time be sure to have plenty of room, no people around and one hand on your saftey just in case anything goes wrong. All the best and safe kiting for all!

I have exactly the same quiver as you (with a 7m 2006 Caution Answer added) and am considering the same or similar strategy (keeping the 16m and getting a 9, 12 Rebel or a 7,10, 14 rebel or a 10, 14 rebel or a 7, 9, 12 rebel).wjb wrote:I am in love with my 06 Vegas kites but I am considering swapping the 9 and 12 meter kites for Rebels and keeping the 16 Vegas when things get really light. What is the bottom end of the Rebel in these two sizes compared to the 06 Vegas. I am a 210 pounder here that could use some extra omph at times without going up a kite size.
