I launched the 7m with 2 other guys around 4.
It was solid 30 mph but after an hour got burly. Gusts into the 40's.
Tried to come back to the launch a few times but even though I was full depowered, the gusts were pulling me off the ground. Decided to go out about 40 yards and eject. Had to do the old deflate and carry through the mud back to the launch.

Thanks Nate for the bit of help getting the waterlogged kite out of the water. Mahalos!

Wow. Glad it ended safely!
So many of us end when the wind dies, but always good to have a plan for ending when it gets too strong...

Yeah, I figured I had two options. Eject and deflate or go down to the south launch where there were a few windsurfers and see if I could get someone to catch the kite. I decided to eject because it was a pretty low tide and the south launch would have been a long mud walk.
If anyone has any other suggestions, I am open to hear them.

Hope it was a safe day for all. I was one of the three who launched at 4p. I put up a 6m & was lit, but holding it down & having fun. I was last to come in about 6p. After I packed up, about 6 more kites showed up. They were rigging 5m-7m. As soon as they launched the wind faded & most of them trickled down into the LL. They were bummed, maybe they stuck around because it picked right back up. Check the chart from the Channel today:

I went out on an 8m around 6:45. It kinda sucked, too gusty to have any fun. Pretty light in the lulls near shore and ridiculously overpowered in the channel. Should've gone to a different spot today.

I scoped out 3rd around 4pm yesterday and figured it was just barely borderline for going out with 8m. I also noticed it seemed a bit offshore. My decision was slightly offshore + 8m equals too dangerous. How was the direction yesterday compared to normal 3rd ave?? I don't kite there too often.

Never self-rescued in winds that strong. Out of curiosity, did you wrap the lines as you went to the kite or did you just swim up your line(s) to the kite and leave them dragging behind you?

Typical wind direction at 3rd this time of year is NW-WNW. Yesterday's direction was WNW to W. Most days have more push from the north.
