Hey Guys,

Proud new owner of a Foil-Fish - now i just need the wind to cooperate so i can try it out.

Impact Vests/PFD's: I've never worn an impact vest before, but they seem to be highly recommended when learning to foil. I had thought about getting something that would have extra utility as well (holding my VHF, hook-knife, water?) and came across the Astral Buoyancy GreenJacket Rescue PFD as an attractive option - it looks good for seafaring. :) Any others recommended?

Helmets: I have a *really* large head, (XXL BERN!!!), so if you have any reccs for very low profile helmets, all the better.

For a PFD, make sure you get one designed for impacts at high speed. I wore a non impact PFD (more comfortable) and it disintegrated after a few sessions. Now I wear a ski vest style PFD with my hydrofoil. When shopping for a PFD, always buy one that is coast guard approved.
Don't forget your footwear to protect your feet. I like wearing wakeskate style street shoes. Wear a fullsuit to protect the calves. When I first started hydrofoiling I shopped for a lacrosse/hockey full face cage to protect my face but thought they were too expensive. I wear a helmet, when crashing I keep my hands on the bar and put my elbows out, and tuck my head down (boxing), to protect my face.
I recommend no rear foot strap and a very loose front strap (if needed).
