why did my chicken loop pop off during a kite loop?

I'm in the OBX and was testing out a used kite I'd never flown before and during a kite loop my chicken loop just came off. I thought something must have broken and as soon as my kite leash engaged that line broke (I guess the kite was still looping and too powered up?) and the kite went on its merry way. Thanks to a lot of friendly kiters I got it back and upon examination there's nothing wrong with the chicken loop. Anyone had this happen and if so, what did I do wrong?

Also, it's a fairly old Rally - can I use it with my fairly old RRD lines? How do I check to ensure my RRD lines will work with it before a session? Just rig and launch and see how it goes?

Thanks for the help.

Sometimes the chicken loop can get dislodged from the actual hook and be resting on the end of the hook, or worse held on by the donky dick only. Riding under low to normal power this can go unnoticed, but when you boost, or in your case loop, it can be enough to fully dislodge the chicken loop. You should periodically check your chicken loop and ensure that it is seated properly on the hook, especially before doing kiteloops SS$$

If all four of the RRD lines are the same length, then they should work fine as replacements. What bar are you using for this kite?

If I had to guess, I would say that this is what happened if the CL was intact when you inspected it. Or you may have forgotten to engage the donkey-dick to lock it in place... I know I've done that on occasion when I'm really anxious to get out on the water.

I have had it happen to me but the donkey dick was not engaged as I was also unhooking that day. It's because when you pull in for a kite loop you can release tension on the chicken loop. Also watch out for unhooking your harness if you have a harness that does not click in and lock. I have also done that multiple times and it is tough to get back in with a powered kite.
