Lake shasta kiteboarding

Heading there Thursday winds suck. Heat 100. Have foil. Any spots that have thermals on hot days? Any local advice is welcome. Houseboating out of Jones Valley.

Thanks for the kitezombie stuff but the reality is this weekend is going to be hot as F so where will the local thermals be. Will the drop off from the dam provide wind. Will the McCould arm always produce. Looking for local knowledge not launch spots I am boat launching. I do really appreciate the attempt for getting me kiting on shasta but the links you provided are like in Feb and not relevant. If any one has any local knowledge let me know I just need a steady 13mph for my foil and 25 to jump over the houseboat.

Most inland lakes in northern CA like Lake Shasta require strong N winds to allow for ideal kiting. The best season for N winds generally comes in the fall and spring months. I've never heard of anyone kiting thermals up there during the summer, but that doesn't mean that it can't be done. With the topography of the lake, I would guess that any wind that you find will be swirly and gusty, especially thermal generated winds at elevation.
