I need the scoop on where the usual launch is at Ocean Beach. I've heard the north end is where the kiters are, true? Also, what direction winds should I be looking for on the bouys? Any help is appreciated.

Ocean Beach is an odd and very fickle place. Ive been there when the winds @ SF Buoy are cranking along with the rest of the coast, and OB will be dead. I have been out there when winds have been great and I am on an 13m kite, suddenly finding myself onshore because the wind died, and then waiting around for an hour to have the winds crank back up again. I would have to say it is extremly unreliable, but the stuff i watch out for is the OB sensors for wind direction and the other coastal sensors for speed. Everyone pretty much is spread out along the beach but depending on wind direction, they will launch anywhere between Lincoln and Balboa. Do be aware there are a lot of dumb tourists who have never seen this sport and will actually get to close. Make sure there isn't any people around you especially if you self launch. OB mostly is a hit or miss place, a vortex of its own if you will.

Most people launch around the area in front of the Beach Chalet and you can kite OB in S, SW, WSW, W, WNW, NW and N winds, basically anything ranging from sideshore to side-on to onshore winds.

That`s funny!!!
Koz here at OB that`s what we say about Alameda, even when it`s blowing!

At least at Sucky-OB we got waves (not that often either, but right now it is that time of the year!)

Go Surffin !

When the South wind blows and it's twenty feet out @ OB.....I'm going to git my butt to kite Alameda instead of paddling out @ OB.....Surfing sucks, no one should try it......

Best not to kite OB. There are already too many kiters. Locals only. go to 3rd. There are lots of people there who can tell you which way to run your lines. Watch out for the turds.

line runners and paddling do suck but squishing turds between your toes can be nice if they are warm.
when the south wind blows and its 20' at OB #-o , i'll be hiding in my closet.... and no i'm not coming out.

a good wave day at OB is rare because the wind is often too onshore.

Ride a wave, no apparent wind, big mess.

going a kazillion miles an hour in 3 inches of butter smooth skim... that's fun tho...
