St. Francis YC SF Bay Challenge/UN CLassic July 10-11

Post by starboard » Wed Jul 07, 2010 10:01 am

The longest running distance race for windsurfers and kites on the West Coast returns to San Francisco this weekend at Crissy Field. Sponsored by the St. Francis Yacht Club and started in 1979 the race tests riders skills on a course that is a true tour of San Francisco Bay. The racers start at Crissy field, go to the Golden Gate Bridge, then back down to Crissy Field, across to Angel Island, down to the Pier 39 area, cross back over to Angel Island, proceed down to Treasure Island area, and finally to the Berkeley pier where the finish line for the SF Classic is. Once riders finish this race they start the UN Challenge and head back to a finish line at the World Famous St. Francis Yacht Club.
If the riders still have legs they can compete in course racing on Sunday at the St. Francis Yacht Club.

Just a small clarification. It's the longest continuously running windsurfing race in the world not just the west coast. Stoked to have the kiters in the hunt. I'll have full reports each day as usuall here on the Bay Area Kiteboarding forum so check back Saturday night.
