I came across this recently:

http://goofboard.com/

I made one for myself and it is my new favorite toy. This thing is totally awesome for working on board balance and getting a lower body and core workout. It totally gives you the "feel" of riding a wave as well.

Me too! Cheap and easy with just plywood and PVC piping to make it - put it together super fast. Might as well work on balance when watching TV waiting for the wind to come up!

I have a GoofBoard and for what it costs I don't think you could build one as nice. Really a cool board and built very well.

Also built in the USA, so support your local companies !

3/4 ply handi panel (2'x4')
3" abs or pvc pipe at 4'
1x2 furring strip
3 0r 4" x 15' grip tape

All of the above should be available at your local hardware store for under $40.

The board is approximately 48" long and 18" wide.
The 1x2 furring strips are placed on the bottom on either side. They act as stops for the
pipe, so board doesn't launch from under you.

You will need some basic carpentry tools and skills. Jigsaw will be required. Overall, an extremely easy project.
