As the title says, I am looking for a trainer kite. Do any of you have one that you aren't using anymore that I could buy off you for cheap?
Thanks,
James

I noticed rematch sports (consignment shop in SF at Polk and Pacific) selling a Rush 250 trainer with bar and lines for $100.

Might still be a little too high for you so find a friend willing go in on it. Kiting by yourself, having to self-launch ain't no fun anyway.

Jam,
Best investment I made. I bought a 3M Scout (
http://www.kitemare.com/hq-scout-2.htm) and flew it for 8 hours. I'll sell it to you for $250, I bought it for $300 two weeks ago. I'll also through in an hour lesson. It was instrumental in getting my kite skills to where I'm now able to ride after taking wowkites " get hooked" package.
Just so you know I had a 1 M trainer which was worthless, needed to feel the power of a kite hooked to my harness.
Pm me if you are interested

IMO a trainer with a harness is a good call. I used a 3m without one and I had to spend the first half of my lesson w/ the real kite unlearning all the bad habits it taught me.

whatever trainer you get. make sure you can fly it one handed with your eyes closed. (seriously). most people who get trainers just fly it all over the sky...which is fun, but not all that helpful.
if you really want a leg up before you take your lessons. put your trainer up in the sky. close your eyes. take one hand off the bar, and THEN fly it around. once you're comfortable. with your eyes still closed, switch hands, and do it all over again.
the eyes closed thing is important, cause when you're riding, you never look at your kite. and the one handed thing is key too, cause most of the time when you'e riding or learning, you're using one hand (to put the board on, to body drag, when riding etc)
once you've mastered that, work on passing the bar behind your back with the kite in the air. maybe try passing the bar between your legs. try flying the kite with the bar backwards, try flying the kite with the bar behind your back....most people don't find the trainer very useful, but i'd just say they didn't practice right.
