Four of us are heading to Costa Rica over the Thanksgiving week. We are doing two days on Lake Arenal and six days at Bahia Salinas. I just bought an HD camcorder with a waterproof housing and plan to get some killer footage. It is sure to be off the hook!

I was wondering if any other BAK folks will be down there at that time? And if anyone is interested in going, there is definitely room to join the group--PM me if you're interested. Airfares are pretty cheap right now-- got mine for $550.

Never been for kiting but November is the start of the windy season. KiteWindSurf guarantees wind so that says something about what to expect. I'm sure others can offer voices of experience.

I went to Lake Arinal about 12 years ago for a week of trekking and a week of pole surfing mid December. Winter is the windy season and Lake Arinal is one of the windiest places in the world. Everything was fantastic and we had a wonderful time but I must warn you, for 3 strait days it blew OVER 45 mph and increased to what must have been 60 all night!!! Never have I experienced such incredable wind power, total liquid smoke... CRAZY CRAZY WIND.... For those of you that have windsurfed, I was on a 2.7m sail and 7' 6" board for all 3 days... Now that's crazy small stuff, smaller than I use at the Gorge.

One thing about this wind, it was the cleanest wind in the world... I would say it never went more than 10mph up or down the whole time and if you have a small enough kite it would have been great... like a 5m kite.

The Hotel Tilawa (at the lake) was fantastic, 1st. class, great country to trek around, rain forests, wonderful people...

I bet the coast would be really great kiting... world class waves.
Just stay away from San Juan as it has lots of crime. Also, lots of crime on the East coast.

PM me if you want more info.

Flippersurf, a month ago we got the tickets off of cheapoair and orbitz. Given that it's been a month I'm sure the ticket prices have changed a lot.
