So where are all the mercedes hubcaps coming from? Or should I not ask?

After 3 races I am expecting to see a windurfer's car with 1 hubcap.

A big thanks to Kiteopia and Mike for a great race and BBQ. This was definitely the best Red Neck Yacht Club Race that I have ever participated in!

For those of you who are thinking about participating in one of these in the future, here are some helpful tips:

1) When you have a 10m kite pumped up already but the wind is 12m, don't say "I'd rather finish last than pump up my 12m". 'Cause as I found out after finishing last I would have really rather taken the time and effort to pump up my 12m after all.

2) When the race has started, and Chip hasn't even made it on the water yet, don't think to yourself "Chip is sooooo screwed". Because he wasn't.

3) When you're out there racing, cruising around on port tack, and someone like Bob is coming at you on starboard and yells "STARBOARD" at you, but he doesn't have a wife-beater jersey on, don't assume that he isn't actually in the race and therefore refuse to give him right of way. This is the Red Neck series, after all, and apparently we can't even afford enough wife-beater jerseys for all the racers. (Once again, Bob, I apologize. Thanks for taking pity on me for finishing last and not filing a protest).

4) When you're only a third of the way to the windward mark, and Chip passes you going the other direction on his way to the finish line and yells at you asking for instructions on where the finish line is, do what I did - don't tell him. Not that it made any difference.

5) When you're half way to the windward mark, and you're only making about 25 yards upwind on each tack across the whole river, DON'T GIVE UP! I didn't, and I can say with a certain pride that it was definitely worth it for 12th place.

6) If you're the last one to round the windward mark, and you see Nat on the shore up there with some students, stop by on your way back down to the finish and say Hello! I mean, it's the friendly thing to do, and he might even have a beer for you, and it's not like you're going to finish any further back.

Armed with these newly acquired bits of wisdom, I'm gunning for at least a top 10 finish in two weeks.

Great words of wisdom Bob. but if chip ask for directions tell him leeward side of marker 2.
If anyones looking for a good foil board let me know I cutting up my airstream and building polished aluminmmm foil boards, I think they will put my name on the hub cap.

Red Neck Races

Post by lacasaverde » Mon Jun 18, 2007 8:51 am

Despite the DNF and abosolutely shredded legs, I had the biggest grin on my face during & after the race. It was just way too much fun playing with all the kids at the park! But smokenman, you f#$% up my start again & I'll have to beat you about the head & shoulders with my fryin pan!!

Huge Kudos to Mike for the amazing BBQ. Josh took some great shots of everyone, be sure to check them out! The most grandest thanks go to Donny & Sandy for organizing the mayhem & seeing it through! Three cheers!

Don't forget this weekend Donny & Sandy are hosting a women's weekend with all the trimmings. Sign up now for intermediate & advanced clinic with them. Spaces are limited. Hurry & don't get left behind! More q'ing to be had, info on WKA &, of course, tons of fun.

In the meantime, I'm gunnin for ya smokin man! I'm upping my training & getting out that secret weapon!! (and packing the super strength Motrin)
See y'all on the water.
Safety First!
