I think we should add untangling your lines after the self-rescue to the timed portion! I want to believe that all my practice in this area will pay off in some way :)Stefano Moris wrote: Begin by body dragging out and rounding the leward side of the 200 ft. marker (giving the marker at least 30 ft. clearance). Drop your kite in the water, self rescues, come out of the water with kite in hand.

It could be a biathlon water and land separate and then the combined time event.
I think Jeff has some markers at the shop with anchors so we could set a course. Perhaps Gabe could donate a DVD or mag subscription as a prize. Ollie might have a T-shirt.
It could even spin into an awarness event to show the public we are praciticing safety skill for their benefit etc.etc.

Bob,
That's an idea. A while back when i organized the Berkeley Clean-Up with the City of Emeryville, it would have been a good to let a few local media outlets know. Sometimes a slow news day will give them the chance to send someone out to cover an event like that, which would be good positive exposure.

Well, in my two experiences as Kite-boy thus far I encountered 3 people that had no idea you could go upwind by bodydragging, and twice that had never self rescued before so lets get this show on the road. I vote for Saturday August 27th. I'll make a fancy pancy poster in the next week or so. I'll be Steward that day anyway and can run the comp and take a break to strut my skills and decimate the competition. Anybody have problems with that date? -stef

CHEERS!
I love it & would like to incorporate it into the KWS Events Schedule maybe I can also help by solicting local and maybe industry support (gifts for participants?) for what promises to be a super fun event. Maybe the local schools, KWS & BS, can co-sponsor a BBQ?Stefano Moris wrote:This would be a timed course race, (racers depart every few minutes) from when your feet enter the water with kite in air, to when your feet leave the water with kite in hand. Every rider must take a board (but can't ride it)

Racers are staggered and timed for safety, lots of distance between each racer. Of course unsafe action like dropping the kite to close to the beach or others, or not following standard sailing rules, would result in disqualification etc...

Perfecting skills that could save your life and save our beach is the best!
Maybe we could get some positive media coverage about an entire community practicing skills to keep the general public safe.
She demonstrates that every day.Emily,
This is another example of why I think you are the GREATEST!!!
