That picture was from Thursday night, they were part of some Suzuki SUV photoshoot.
Robert is right, the campground in Oceano has RV hookups (at least spaces to park RVs, not sure if they have power/sewage/whatever hookups?). I also seem to remember that there were other RV specific spots, but didn't research them.

RV Parks
For RV/Camping options in Pismo/Ocean area:
www.classiccalifornia.com
Avila Beach (about 10-15 minutes North of Pismo/Shell Beach, on the way to hot springs):
http://www.portsanluistrailerpark.com/rv.html
A bunch of RV parks and camp Grounds in "tri Cities" area including Grover Beach (entry to Oceano from Freeway), Pismo, Shell, and AVila Beaches
http://www.groverchamber.com/camp.html
The event was pushed back to May as we typically have better, stronger, more consistent wind in this month than April. Watch the tide! We've had to dig a few cars out cause visiting kiters were just having too much fun and didn't pay attention to the waterline....

I grew up in the area and the mother of one of my very good high school friends runs a great hostel in downtown San Luis Obispo (probably a 10-15 drive from Pismo Beach and a cool place to hang out). It's inexpensive and has a great friendly hostel traveller's vibe. Mention to Elaine that Ed Kim sent you!

I was at the campgrounds with Josh last year its a cool site really close to the beach but small sites large groups hard to accomidate but its right near a lagoon and the mosquitoes sucked, ive actually camped on the ohv beach before and it was sweet. I'm planning on camping on the beach this year, ive got a group of people from here in the bay area kiters and non-kiters(partiers) who will be joining me anyone who would like to join the camp the more the better. There is alot of space on the beach, if you dont mind hanging out with a party crew come join us.

When I lived in LA I would go to Jalama all the time...
Great sailing but really big knarly waves and many times it would be 20 - 25 ft. faces and 6.0m sails / 10 to 15 mph. of really gusty wind. This combo can mean sure death for equipment. I remember driving 4 hrs from LA only to sit down and get a Jalama burger (got to get one) and watching sailors, one after another, walk by with broken equip. and we just had to just drive home without even getting wet, thats how knarly it can get.
Some days though it can be fantastic... April can be unreal with wind every day and really good waves.
I would say Jalama can be one notch above Wadell except without the sharks....
20 years ago we would all go to Jalama in April for the Jalama Shootout. We would come the week before and sail every day for a week with Ian Boyd, Tony Lagoze, Peter Trow and lots of other pros. (sorry for the spelling of their names) This was always a great opportunity to sail with and watch the "Big Boys" do some really great tricks and some insane wave rideing (for the day)
Camping there is really nice / some of the best in CA... As I remember, they take all sizes and camping ir right on the beach. Great times next to the fire and the people are great too... The water is only a few hundred yards from your camper.
Though I have only sailed there, I would thing it is good for Kiteing too as there is a really big beach to launch from.
One thing to know, it is said that Jalama means "Changeing Winds"
Take that for what it's worth.

Anyone thinking of coming should definitely consider booking campground, rv site or hotel early. May is the beginning of high season on the central coast with tourists from the valley coming in for the weekend. For instance, I called Kon Tiki hotel looking for special rates for visitors and they were completely sold out for the weekend....
