What's the backup plan if the wind is not good?

The current forecast is for the wind conditions to be appropriate for the downwinder.
It is a fundraiser after all, so if there is no wind, at least we got Maui Mike's BBQ to look forward to ;-)

Haha--not trying to be negative. I just hope there will be less swimming than last time! ;)

Are we required to take the most direct route ? (9 miles):
Or can we take an alternate route? (10 miles)
Or maybe a bay sightseeing route? (12 miles)

Or maybe this one, except for the alcatraz wind shadow? (18 miles)

What is the protocol for landing at Berkeley? I have not been to that launch site. Is there anything in particular to look out for? I have read through the thread about the location on the forum. Anything to add?

I'm going to take my DROID and run the google tracks application to see how far I actually traveled. Four years ago I did the downwinder when Liquid Force was running it and we went on the Angel Island side of Alcatraz, and it NUKED through the needle. Last year with live2kite we all went on the SF side and were instructed not to go to the Angel side. Nonetheless the first year we all took our time and it was 4+ hours of riding.... and the live2kite year it was quick, less than 2 hours, +1 for the swim cause I left late.
Should be tons of fun!! Go Saturday GO!
