Its my main go to kite boarding spot and conditions are awesome. The biggest problem we have is ikitesurf forecasting is a crapshoot. Conditions are driven by a thermal flow in the afternoon and normally kick in around 2PM but could go off as early as 12 and as late as 3. Solid 18's is a given but can be lighter or heaver. The foil boards rule the roost as anything above 10 works for them. yesterday we were all sitting on the beach waiting for conditions to pick up while a foil board and big kite had the ocean to themselves. Wind shadows from the oil islands, ships, and barges.

Stingrays in the shallows so body drag as soon as water touches your kneecaps - A stingray hit is a very painful experience but the local lifeguards have the facilities to deal with them (hot water and a bucket) so as soon as you get hit, call the lifeguards.

No transitioning or tricks close to the beach as the lifeguards will fine you or worse, shut the beach down for all of us.

Students/learners normally rotate and perform the walk of shame between the Claremont Ave lollypop east while experienced riders stay west of the Claremont Ave lollypop.

Carry a safety backpack and do a trip out to an oil rig couple of miles offshore, around the oil islands, and out to the end of the long beach breakwater. Magical flat waters behind the breakwater walls ;)

Attached pic is a typical session for me from Saturday. Launch/land is Claremont Ave and in this session, I did a anti clockwise loop around Chaffee Island via the end of the breakwater wall followed by a clockwise loop around Chaffee Island via the oil rig seen at 0:16 in the above video.

Fine in shorts if you are just mowing the lawn - I tend to get offshore quite a distance and have had some long swims home, so normally wear a spring suit in the summer. Agreed that a long wetsuit is too much unless you also have an issue with moles/skin cancer.

So, this is where all this south wind is coming from. It has been turning our precious north wind into a gusty unrideable mess for last few weeks (like today). Oh well, our loss is your gain down there.

Actually your weather is now impacting us so I think its safe to point the finger at the NW crew!

Belmont is cool but I gotta say some of the spots north of there are pretty magical too...
