Baja beginner tips

Hey guys

I'm straight beginner (3 wk course in Costa Rica) and hoping to spend this winter in the Baja practicing my (non-existent) skills. If you guys have any tips on the do's and don't's of Baja for a beginner that would be great. For example:

1. How many kite quiver and what sizes would you recommend for a 175lb guy in December and January?
2. What kind of board would you guys recommend to help with going upwind?
3. How cold is the water and is a wet suit necessary? shorty? mm?
4. Where is the best area for a beginner?
5. I've got a truck and camper, can I just park it on the beach, or is there a place you guys recommend with electrical and water hook up?

Hey Raztec,

The wind can range anywhere between light low-teens MPH speeds to up 20's low 30's MPH. So it really helps to prepared for all conditions. A great quiver for you or for anybody going down is 8m/10m/12m/14m. A less than great size range but covers the full spectrum: 8m/11m/14m.

Board size something around 145cm X 44cm.

The best place to learn is have an instructor the whole time. He/she will make everything all right.

You would bring a full suit, 3/2mm or 4/3mm. They are good for full body protection from the the sun and to keep your warm on the windy, cloudy, chilly days. Shorties are nice as a 2nd suit or if you are hot blooded.

You can park on the beach, in the 2nd arroyo north of the main campground. You might have to pay something like $10 a night. Free camping is up by the hot springs, north of town.
