iphone pouch + good wired headphones ?

Post by irvinside » Mon May 15, 2017 9:59 pm

Hi Guys
just a quick one about Music while riding if it helps:

I've been trying a couple of iPhone pouches that failed me on water until I found his little one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006I ... UTF8&psc=1 $20

I have been using one for 2 years, before re-ordering the same model.
Sturdy. Comes with Audio cable Male/Female. Unfortunately the earplugs that come with it are not good.

So for riding I use these wired headphones on water:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F4 ... UTF8&psc=1 $30

Works great, even with the gusts as of today (13-28 knots). Did not had to re position them once but I was on a surf. If you jump and fall you will need to re position them once in a while. Only thing is their sound could be better, as water is required in earplugs to get a good boom bass. SO need to get wet.

Likely there are better systems, but this one stays in place and does not damage the iphone.
That's a start. What do you use ? Any advice ?

Thanks,
Greg.

Update-- so sad about Alameda. Just read the Post >K($ . Rest in peace Man S*urf

I have one from Drycase that I've been really happy with... http://www.drycase.com

There were three features about it that stood out the most to me...
1) It has an external jack so you can use it with waterproof headphones. It even comes with some decent ones that have a waterproof mic built in, so you can make/take calls if you so choose.
2) It has a vacuum seal/pump feature that confirms it's water tight. The vacuum also sucks the cover tight to the touch screen, so it allows the screen to be operated fairly well in my experience.
3) It has a strap design that allows it to attach to your upper arm. No hanging it around your neck or having to find a secure spot to put it.

My only complaint is it's not as streamlined or sexy as some of the others, but for only $40 I think it's the best bang for the buck.
I quoted myself from 3 years ago. I still use this pouch today. I combine it with an impact case. One thing I didn't mention above is that you can plug and unplug (or accidentally) while in or under the water.

Here's the exact model I have: https://www.drycase.com/product/DC-13.html
EDIT: I just tried using my iPhone 7 with the Drycase and discovered that it prevents the "home" button from working. No way to access the phone. Camera still works, but no way to shuffle songs or answer the phone unless you have something attached to the earphone that allows for this. :(
