I posted this below on iwindsurf forums, I'm not familiar with the local windsurfing communities but maybe somebody picks this up from here:
I kite at 3rd , Ave. and while packing today, Wed 8th around sunset, a cop pulled in and ask if anybody saw any windsurfers that lost their equipment out on the water. He said they found two (!) complete sail-board floating by themselves out in the channel. They were preparing to send a helicopter up to look for the presumed windsurfers that came with the gear.
While this doesn't sound too good, I should add that at times it was nuking today on the outside, must have been pulsing up and down all the way into the 30s, and there was big chop too in the channel. I assume Foster City Police / USGS is pursuing this so if you know anything / have missing buddies (no bad jokes please), do let them know.

I think I was the last windsurfer in today. Landed at 7:20. Wind died fast, and it took a while to get in. There were no unaccounted-for cars in the lot when I left. Maybe the rigs came down from Coyote?

My Coast Guard contact says the items recovered were 2 kites and 2 kite boards. There is often confusion between windsurf and kitesurf gear among those who don't use it. Searches by air and boat did not turn anyone up and the general opinion was that they were able to run good searches that had a good probability of turning someone up if they were out there. If you think it could ever be you, mark your gear with your phone number and invest $80 on a good strobe (firefly) or $16 on a submersible flashlight (pelican) to signal with.

Gusts over 30 mph, 3rd ave, let me guess...were those kites 12 or 14 meter by any chance?
I remember a post here where some guy was telling us all he needed to kite there was a 13M.

It says 10M, but it's really a 9.

PS: I have a call in to the Operations officer at the Coast Guard station and I should be able to get descriptions of any gear recovered, so if anyone thinks that the lost gear could be theirs, e-mail me a description at thorner@sfba.org along with your contact info and I will let you know if they have your gear or not.

Natasha? lost her kite in the channel today - a turbo diesel I think.
Not sure what she was doing out there alone on a 11m, but I think she learned a lesson today.
Damon pulled her in. I will let her know about the found kites.
She managed to hang on to her board.
I guess we should have called the CG about the lost kite.

Always call the CG for lost boards at locations such as Crissy and certainly for lost kites at Crissy, 3rd, and most bay spots where it wont wash onshore quickly. As Peter has pointed out many times, to the CG a missing kiteboard or kite could very well mean a kiter in peril, injured or drowned, etc.

The main parking lot at 3rd was checked by last windsurfer and Coast Guard Auxiliary. Maybe someone should check the golf course lot to see if a car was left?

There is a new post on iKitesurf from "dkali" about a rescue in the "SF Bay" yesterday in which the kite was released. Was that Crissy, or any chance it explains the other missing kiter? I'm not a member if the forum, so couldn't ask about details.
