Hope the guy who hit the rocks by Hs. Lordships (Berkeley) is ok.

Cut his head open, went to ER...
Any details...lessons to learn?
other than stay away from hard objects...and wear a helmet...
Be safe!

Re: On the Rocks at Hs. Lordships
Jeez... hope he's ok. Did anyone happen to witness this/see what went wrong?
And, yeah... doesn't seem to be much love from the windsurf side in that post. Guess that explains why I've been getting the one fingered hand gesture from them in return for my shaka lately... Its too bad since we're out there for the same reason. He/we definitely owe the windsurfers one for helping him out.
Another reminder to be safe out there...

No I think it's called fear:joemount2004 wrote:Wow, they really hate us huh?
Quote Cut from IKITE: "Last year I counted seven kiters dead, just by reading occasional news reports between Europe and here ... it is a dangerous sport which is made even more so by people that are in denial of its dangers."
Sounds like someone got VERY LUCKY-

Re: On the Rocks at Hs. Lordships
BTW: IF you read the report, you'll see the kiter didn't want medical attention...
PROBLEM: Even small HEAD WOUNDS can bleed ALOT and therefore look VERY BAD, however the REAL DANGER AREA is INSIDE the SKULL and may not show any sign's at all..
Asking questions like, What color is your kite etc.. may help determine if the person is in shock or brain injuried..
*** SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION for head injury's.
Put a lid on-

Re: On the Rocks at Hs. Lordships
Here is a thought; the guy was on a 14 contra and looked new to the Berkeley launch and the rest of us were on 11 & 12m kites. I personally launched this guy and I quote "you should go out on a smaller kite". Maybe people should listen to guys on the beach instead of assuming they know the area. Unfortunately I have to somewhat side with the windsurf guys on this one. Those of us who kite there and have kited there for years have tried discourage those individuals who show up and just go out. People who don’t seem to understand that the wind line is out there farther than some people can upwind to. This is not a beginners spot and can be dangerous. Incidents like these are going to get the spot shut down. This is not a debatable subject and eventually will lead to problems on the beach.

Re: On the Rocks at Hs. Lordships
Actually the kite in the tree was a yellow/green slingshot REV. Not sure on the size but I'm pretty sure it was an 11m. The guy on the 14 contra was not involved. I spoke with the individual involved in the accident after the EMT's dropped him at his car at Point Emery and he was definitely injured and seemed to still be in shock. I wont speculate on what happened because he wasn't really sure himself. He was taking himself to the Hospital to get some stitches in his Head and leg. I wish him a fast recovery and hope this serves as a reminder to always be and act as Safe as possible. Although I do agree the Guy on the 14 contra probably could have been using a smaller kite :!:

I think a more proactive approach could have been taken. Personally, if you have to be on a 14m Contra, you probably shouldn't be out.
