This is a great opportunity for mid-level kiters to have an awesome bay run and do it with the safety and support to keep it fun, and the fundraiser for SF Baykeeper is a great idea as well.

It was fun besides the hour long swim in at Berkeley. I did get a nice applause once reaching the beach grabbing all my gear and running up like Rocky.

Some German dude swam by me at 10mph, kid you not, telling me i had to "dig in". Helped motivate me but goddamn man...

Remember the wind shift, rain squall, and fat rainbow that came out after.... and the keg of beer at L2K! mmmm.....

Hopefully we will start early so that we will all land before the wind shuts down.

what are some good tips for swimming in with kite and board? i guess the whole idea of holding the kite and using it as a sail is only good when there is wind. So any recommendations on techniques for swimmiing with the kite and board? i always get a nasty tangle when i do it and end up like a fish caught in a net :) (its funny now, but not when im in the water;) )

best no wind swim is roll up lines, flip kite on its back, toss the bar inside the kite, attach safety leash to the loop you normally attach your pump leash to. if you want to go all out loosen your harness and turn the hook to the back or side and lay on your board while swimming.
remember kite on its back, leading edge down is much harder

Please make sure that everyone doing this know that there is a race that day.
It is the Ronstan distance and course racing event. Sign up at stfyc.com if you want to do it!
On the day of the downwinder we will be Racing from Crissy out the Golden Gate to the Berkeley Pier and back to Crissy.

Last time this down wind was on the same day as the race there were some of the downwind kiters at the finish line that would not give right a way to kiters finishing the race.

SO please stay way from in front of the St Francis. The middle of the bay is where you want to be anyway.

Hey All,

The downwinder will make a solid effort to stay out of the way of the racecourse. I support the racing crowd, and I admire them for going all the way to Berkeley and BACK.

For the rest, who would like a bus to pick them up at Berkeley, sign up for the downwinder! It's for a really good cause, especially for all of us who spend a lot of time in the bay water... Spread the word about Baykeeper (baykeeper.org) by creating your own fundraising page too. For any amount, it's well worth it to get the word out.

Back to the racing folks-- come by the crissy BBQ afterwards to say hi.

Cheers,

Ben
