Beware! 3rd Ave sandbags are full of glass!

Post by NoContext » Tue Jul 19, 2011 2:02 pm

Just a warning to the people who launch from the upper "beach" at 3rd. A sandbag was laid on my kite to keep it from scooting the other day, and the sandbag was full of broken glass that could be heard inside when moving the bag. The glass caused a small cut in my kite. I was able to patch it myself, but it's a bit disappointing to get a tear from a sandbag.

Judging by the quality of the sandbags that are still around there, we may want to replace them soon as many are either full of glass or are leaking/empty.

Wow, this is my bad, sorry. A month or so ago I was cleaning up broken glass off the flats, and partially filled a sandbag with it (like 1/10 full). It never occurred to me it could get used to hold down a kite. But for sure it would, as it got filled up by others, and I didn't mark it. Stupid move on my part, sorry!! I'll cover Sonny sewing it up for you, and a six pack, at the least. Good deed gone bad.

No worries David. It was a tiny cut and I just used a patch kit. Really nothing major. Good looking out on the glass pickup idea though, there is a lot of it out there. It is one of the reasons I have kept wearing my booties all summer.

See you out at 3rd.

FYI, I headed over to 3rd, found the offending bag and disposed of it. The sandbags should be safe again!
