Got in an amazing sesh today. Big waves and flat water. Felt like a colder bigger more lonely version of NE Brazil. Seriously one of my best sessions of the year and I live in Greece and spent Feb/March in Cabo Verde and September in Brazil. My third sesh in the last couple weeks out this way. Anybody kite in NW Marin? I'm not into crowds but goin' solo out this way is a little sketchy.

Great you got some wind. Where specifically? Are you the crazy going out on North Beach of Pt. Reyes? That is some seriously sharky lonely place normally totally out of control heavy conditions. Watch out for conditions with offshore component...

Yes, North Beach Point Reyes is one of the spots I shreded yesterday. Let's be honest. Just because the park service puts up signs saying shark area doesn't make it any sharkier then say Wadell. In addition your chances of getting chowed by a shark kitesurfing are pretty tiny. However, the rips make Ocean Beach, SF look like the kiddy pool. Drowning potential is high. Lonely, completely. Would be nice to have some company. Looks like the wind may come back Mon/Tuesday.

Some day Point Reyes will be a popular kite spot, either that or it will get shut down by the plover police. Can you say the word lagoon?

Logically, I agree about the sharkbait odds...as long as you're planing along.
But wherever you see marine mammals hanging out you know whitey's nearby. I've had the wind shutdown at Limantour and waiting for a puff to get back in was scary.
As far as Point Reyes being a popular spot for kiting (or surfing or windsurfing); it's just too damn far from most people for it ever to get popular.
And in the lagoon (Estero) I've been hiking over a bridge on a tiny inlet and damned if a big ass shark didn't swim under, just about taking up the whole channel. Too many seals there for me to go in. Have fun!

not estero....lagoon...do some google earth recon, you'll see it.

agree, thankfully, point reyes is too f-ing far out there for most. But the sport grows and grows. Lonely spots quickly become hot spots.

How does limintour work on a NW clearing wind? Gusty or okay?

I'm gonna head to Dillon tomorrow pm if the clearing winds happen. It's alot closer than the spot you're talking about, and just a little more populated. Not crowded, especially not on the day after a holiday weekend.

ETHANol - so what was the riding like? were you riding waves - making bottom turns, hitting lips - or mostly riding a TT in crazy big sets? Wha size kite did you ride? were you on a directinal board or a TT?

How as the wind? Side shore? on shore?

I windsurfed at this beach (just 1 time, and got my ass kicked, due to current and resulting lack of apparent wind), and found Limantour to be a better option: granted, getting over big white water with a pole board is much harder then jumping with a kite....

Sometimes when the waves are big, it's all butter in between them. Last time I went out at Dillon, the waves were over my head but sweet flat butter in the troughs. I guess they block the wind from hitting the water.

Saturday at I kited Jalama Beach down south, and the waves were much smaller, but the water was choppier.
