regarding the cop's 'reticence' remind them that these f@$%! tried to STEAL YOUR CAR in the first place and got your kite gear as a consolation prize. can they(cops) link them to other stolen cars? might be a little more incentive for them to pursue these guys. don't buy it back, no way! i'm in sacramento but will help anyway i can.

Here's what happened
Now that we're protected with a super secret handshake I can tell all.
We had a sting set up for this morning. An Undercover cop was going to pose as Yuri and meet with the seller at the Arco on University at 1pm. The seller didn't show even though Yuri tried to call and verify at 12:45.
The cops pulled the plug at 1:30.
End of story. Though I still want to pursue the car seat (what other stuff do you have) angle.
Here's what I 've learned.
Go on your own to buy it. If the stuff is yours, buy something and then send in the cops in a with a search warrant. The cops will never set up a another sting and it takes too long anyway.
Other tips
Do add little touches to your stuff that's unique to you so that an undercover cop can spot w/o having to look for a serail number since that looks suspicious.
Personally, I'm writing my name on the bladders. Even though it's totally suspicious to look at a bladder, it's also the last place a thief would look and a reasonable place for a knowledgeable person to look. And a cop will never question it if you find it (I'm kinda guessing at this).
Don't exect the cops to help.
If you've left it open ended, and the cops didn;t get the search warrant, you may still be able to go buy the rest of it.
Write down the serail numbers on everything.
Let me know if your interested following up the car seat angle. Maybe I'm deluded, but I think it's still possible to get the kite back.
Thanks Everyone for the support.
