kitesurf at Crissyfield?

Post by fabien » Tue Jun 12, 2007 1:51 pm

i would like to go kiting at Crissyfield.
Is the launching for the kite , at the same place where the windsurfers start?
I assume, you need to carry a VHF with you, in case something goes wrong and a huge supertanker is coming on you; any tips for what to buy, and where to buy it.
thanks a lot

Suprtanker is coming for you what to buy? I would say life insurance if you have a family and beers for the locals if you don't want your family to cash in the policy.

But really I think that the chance that they are going to be your down fall there are small compare to the tide and wind.

I think westmarine is your best bet for a vhf radio. do a search on previous posts on this forum, there was a nice long dialogue about vhf radios a couple months ago.

I went to Crissy not too long ago and talked to a local. I was surprised to learn that the wind blows slightly offshore, it seems more offshore than cross shore. As I stood on the beach and watched others launching for about 5 minutes, a gust of wind blew leaves and seaweed resting behind me, straight into the surf infront on me. It would seem that this would be less than ideal when you have gear issues out on the water, as you will be blown towards Berkley.

Was this normal wind direction or was it a case of wind turbulence rolling over the hills?
