question, if two kiters are tacking towards each other, the person with their right hand/arm directly into/facing the wind has the right of way, correct?

I was meaning to ask but thought people would laugh at me for not knowing this.

starboard tack has right of way. All sailing, maybe all boating not sure.

upwind always flies high.

bigger boat always has right of way. And that doesnt mean Big Dave can swipe your tack cause he's heading at you, i mean boats.

advanced riders give beginners right of way, cause were freaking cool ass people.

I would but someone would steal it!

I like to think I'm a nice guy but if they were throwing full coke cans in the air on or near the cars they would lock me up for being 5150! John you showed great restraint. The phone number has been added to my phone, Thank you.

Kevin violence never solves anything (specially if they catch you doing the deed)...I suggest that a sophisticated group like ours should give credence to the term tribe. Yes, that is right, ninja outfits and poisonous blowdarts from the reeds...On the tack right of way question, can I tailgate if my intention is to do one of those super cool in water high fives? And isn't an advanced beginner a beginning intermediate...god I am so confused....

Upwind kite high meaning if you are on an opposing tack with another rider who is downwind of you coming toward you. If you are upwind raise your kite high, they drop theirs a bit and you cruise by each other with no worries. If you are on the same tack it doesn't matter much as the kiter with the strongest upwind reach and speed will prevail, although you do not want to jack your bro by pinching him off hard if you are slightly downwind of him and have the upwind reach and speed to come up on him on his tack. In that case, unless you are racing, slow down, let him by, or reverse your tack and have fun going the other way.

Ollie explained it, but this is the right of way in the situation you are talking about:
Leeward kiter has right of way during overtaking.

If he was downwind of you, he has right of way, but all this doesn't really matter kiting, we all just seem to try to stay cool -- probably would matter if someone got f'd up and there were bills, etc.

When I was learning at Sherman was a bit intense. Lot's of people all over, way better than me, getting real close.

If I was being overtaken by someone on the same tack or they were following super close, I look back a couple times like I'm about to tack. If I really need to tack, I'll look back and start yelling "TACKING!" like sailboat racers do with "STARBOARD!" You can also start slowing so they have to pass you (if this is safe), or bear off and escape downwind to get him off your ass (fly your kite low and he should go high).

Or bust a phat cheese cut and the fouled air should make him bear off...

Jono i like the last option, i'll try that next time.

we were on the very same tack, going along at the same clip. (or maybe he was slightly downwind because I didn't have to crank my head around much to see him? ---Just how wide is the area/alley considered?)
Again I realize not a big deal but it was kindof wierd w such a big area to choose where to go in.

Thanks for pointing out/reminding of the rules/guidelines.
