I have seen this happen at 3rd once; a guy slammed a kite on a dude's head and acted like nothing happened, it was totally obvious that the dude got smacked and not a single word of apology, it was like the guy didn't want to say anything--in fear of aggravating the situation. But not saying anything was much worse... clearly not a cool situation
Thanks for posting your experience... this should be a kiting rule at every kiting spot...
also... If a dog runs over your kite and the dog's paw/claw makes a hole in one of your main panels and you go out and your kite rips a new one, what is one to do? Is the dog's owner to pay for the repair?

every time someone pisses me off at the beach, cuts me off, runs their lines over mine, I try to think about this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fundamenta ... tion_error (if you don't understand it, PM me)
we all need to do our part to be courteous and good to each other. that's why I always yell thanks for each launch and landing i get. but it's also our responsibility to give people the benefit of the doubt when they piss us off.
sometimes beginner kiters are so afraid after they've been dragged around, they forget common courtesy. i'm not saying it's an excuse, but i've seen it happen before.

To be honest, a thank you would be nice but I don't really care all that much.
Help if you feel like helping but don't expect a medal when you decide to do it is how I look at it. There are all kinds of people on the beach, some are traumatized by what just happened while others are just rude, hell, some just don't speak English. I wouldn't let that affect my day in the least, on the other hand if someone is continuously rude I'll motion like I'll catch their kite and as it touches down I'll walk the other way. Have a nice ride through the bushes.

I think my kids point wasn't that he didn't get a thank you...knowing Brenan he will go out of his way for you and never mention it...it did piss him off to get hit and not only not get a sorry dude, but was actually asked for a relaunch as if nothing happened.
I am sure you are kidding about walking away from a kite after it touched down if you signaled that you are getting it, as you know that would put other people in jeopardy. If you get really mad just reach down and pull his deflate valve...Brenan was just reaching for it but decided to be gratious about it. I would of backed him up...

Well, I wasn't really kidding, but then I didn't really think this through and I haven't been in that situation. But my point stands none the less. I am not trying to sound rude and if you know me, you know that I am the first one to help. I also come to the beach with a thought that at any time somebody can drop a kite on my head. When they do it once and they are having a bad day or bad tack or whatever. I'll pick up the kite, and if I can I'll relaunch it if I they want. Maybe I'd give a WTF look if I'm too having a bad day. Again, if they do it continuously and simply ride stupid , I suppose I'd have to figure out something other than let them go for a ride through the bushes :).
