Hey guys give steve a break. (epecially p-air) I tried 3 different kite brands at 3rd right in front of steve before i decided to ride cabrinha. Theres a difference between organized commercial events and a friend handing you a kite to try out. It seems to me hes looking out for the other reps because of past experiences there.

No one forces me to do anything i don't want to do.

I've got a whole quiver of SB3's that i wouldn't mind letting people try. I just say give every brand a fair demo. The '08 cabs are great, to me the decision was clear.

Big winds, Burgers and Dogs on the way!!!!

Okay, so this is the last post from me on this.

I have no issues with Steve or anyone else for that matter, and I welcome all other reps/brands to join me. For anyone that has even been to an OR demo, they are about as far from " organized commercial events " as you can get.

The process:

1) Pull the gear out of the truck and pump it up wherever the locals want us. Often we like help with this as it makes it easier for us to get everyone on the water faster, including ourselves.....it also makes it easier to access the beer.

2) After we have all had a good time riding, we put the gear back in the truck and then drink the beer.

Sometimes the order of events changes but that's about it. =D>

Ramsey, my reaction to Steve's post was more because of his comment in the LF post where he suggested that the LF rep ought to know better. Felt that was a poor response given that there really shouldn't be anything wrong w/demos. This didn't come across like someone sharing experiences to me. For the record, I've tried Cabrinha kites and have liked them a lot, so no 'dis' on Steve's kites, just on the approach that came across anti-consumer. OK, enough of this talk, and let's SEND IT!!!

It appears that Britt, Liquid Force rep, spoke w/Gary. See his latest post in the Liquid Force demo topic. In summary, it does appear that there are some insurance issues that need to be dealt with that have nothing to do w/Gary or Helm. Hence, meeting those requirements means that any manufacturer can do a demo at 3rd. So it does appear like the process is fair and open and Gary has obtained the necessary licenses already, but nothing prevents Liquid Force or Ocean Rodeo fm doing the same. Sounds like everything is working out for the safety and benefit of the consumer afterall...yay! :) OK, back to kiting and demos :)

Oh my...it's an Obama, Hillary debate!!!And I thought I was logging on to Bayareakiteboarding.

Seriously, for all reps, who so far have treated me with respect, (asides from the comment about how I ride s&%$ty kites)

...telling me that my Waroos suck when I have had nothing but good luck with them will not attract me towards your product.

Trying to restrict me from trying other products, will not attract me to your brand.

Bad mouthing the other rep guy will not make you the cool guy

Thinking that the sand box is actually yours because there is a shack with your stuff there is just sophomoric and telling me I can't teach my kid 1/4 of a mile down from the launch is retarded (the my beach mentality is what drove me to take a extended sabbatical from surfing)

I am stoked to try a bunch of stuff this year in Pismo and am praying for wind...

There are very few of us that are going to ride equipment other than that which fits our riding styles, personalities and judgement...a newbie might fall for these weird tactics, but they will find their stick soon enough and then any past attempt of false stirring and information will just remain as a bitter taste in their mouth

Let's have a beer...

Well, unfortunately I have to post yet again. I was also contacted by Gary at Helm Sports but we have a difference of opinion. I won't speak for him here, but to make a (far too) long story short I don't believe that an informal, casual demo should require the same sort of permit(s) etc that a long term commercial operation does, and I don't see a legitimate conflict. We certainly were not planning to charge for anything, teach lessons, or sell anything. With regards to insurance and liability, this is something that is necessary if you are teaching lessons. If the city had an issue with people riding there recreationally I am sure they would make it known....

That being said, in the interest of trying to keep things FUN and minimize any potential problems, we will not be doing the demo as planned and this will not be an Ocean Rodeo sanctioned " event ". Myself and my friends will be there to ride, and I would encourage you to come up and introduce yourself to anyone you see with a Rise!

On another note, I am looking to set up as many as four 3rd Ave locals as regional team riders. I select my regional riders based on:

1) Stoke.

2) We look for people that will be good ambassadors for both the sport in general and the brand.

Riding level is not important, as we prefer our regional Crew to be a good mix of the levels represented by the local spot. If interested, please email at ussales@oceanrodeo.com and we'll take it from there.

Evan, you sound like a good guy, sorry you got to deal with our local politics. in the end, the product usually speaks for itself though. Hint: I think you might need to pump a few extra kites just in case the wind fluctuates throughout the day.

Yeah I met evan at the Pismo demo last year, He helped me with the OR surf drysuit while sand was blowing in our face. You might remember me putting it on inside out. Anyway, I hope the demo or "event" still happens. And we don't need to bring Alameda politics over to 3rd. I don't know with a great launch like the north flat why we don't have more reps demoing stuff. See you out there -Dave
