Quick update on Matt...
On Sunday afternoon Matt was taken off the ventilator and trying to whisper some words. As of Monday 8/4/08 evening Matt is still in ICU but he started to eat and answer some questions. He does remember the first fall of the accident, and he is in a lot of pain still. He is learning communicate again, and is answering important questions like, what month it is, where he is, where he works, etc. He has minimal movement with his left arm and leg, it will just be a matter of time before he has full motion. We are very optimistic of a full recovery.

The doctors hope to move Matt out of ICU tomorrow (8/5/08). He will be transferring hospitals, probably a Kaiser hospital that has a neuro department. He still needs a hospital that specializes in neurology.
Again, thank you for all of your positive feed back prayers. I am sure that when he is able to recover a bit, that he will come down and visit. I will continue to post updates on his condition.

Matt

Hang in there buddy, you will have a full recovery! This reminds me of my car accident on Bailey road, when I rolled my Triumph GT6 with a buddy of mine on thanksgiving day, we rolled it 17 times and I was not wearing a seat belt, they had to cut me out of the car because the jaws of life did not open the door. Similar injuries as what you have. The body will heal itself but it will take some time. It took me about six months to heal. I trust that you will recover to 100% we are all pulling for you, hang in there!!!

Jen…thank you for the regular updates. It’s great to hear that Matt is making good progress. Please give him my best wishes. I met Matt the day before the incident. I was taking a lesson from Nat, and Matt got a ride upwind. After making our way back to the parking lot, we hung out for an hour or so. I was impressed with Matt’s attitude…very inspiring. I also enjoyed Matt’s down to earth nature and his willingness to convey the kiteboarding insights he had been learning the hard way. I look forward to hanging out with him again…soon.

My thoughts are with you and your family Jen. Wish Matt a speedy recovery from all of us kiters in Oregon too.

I am going to share this story with our forum up here to and hopefully get people to get rid of those leashes.
